| Subject: Ripmax Trainer Project 1981 +30 Sun 13 Feb 2011, 5:34 pm | |
| This year is my 30th anniversary of flying RC models, not that I have been flying for all of that time, so in reality it been 20 or so years of flying, 10 years less mainly because of my apprentiship, collage / Uni ect, and my other passion restoring cars.. back in 1981 I purchased a Ripmax Trainer, this year I am making another exactly the same. its a very special machine to me as it was the first big machine I built, I was a junior member of the Maidstone MFC, who used to fly at Detling, the show ground, my Ripmax Trainer was tested by a instructor in the club, and I started to learn with him... doing well, untill I dicided to have a go on my own at Detling, this was my first solo which I never landed as I lost it in the woods in Detling, for 6 months, (which was winter time,1981. not unlike we had Christmas this year, snow, wind, frost ect...). I found it in the spring of 1982 in a tree, the fuz was stuck in a 'V' of branches, the wings and tail were on the ground, both the motor and radio gear were usable after a service, I rebuilt the model as it didn't suffer too bad ,I continued to fly the rebuilt machine, for some time, until a poor hand launch wrote it off.. the following pictures are of the original machine and work so far in the new build.... I will continue this thread with regular up dates as I am intending to have the new machine operational at the end of March this year as that is the anniversary.. | |

| its been a fantastic build so far.... Dont know why it should be differant to building anything else... like a brand new machine in kit form! even playing the same tapes that I built the first one to.. hence the 'wireless' next to the building board.. even got a new OS 40 H MAX for it.. I think I have a few less degrees dihedrial in the wings.. as someone on another forum told me its 4.5 " at one end.. I have built it with 3".. Will it make the machine more Rudder sensitive? | |
