The weather has been bit poor so decided to build a wot4 xl, not really that exciting but I have a new ZDZ 40cc looking for a home ,this is the same engine I have in my Zero bags of power, I know, I could have bought a ready to fly one but I don't think it would have been up to the job.
I have been so impressed with the ones flying Colin's Ian's Rays and Tony's that I thought why not build one from scratch for a winter hack so here goes
So started with fuss sides cut out of light ply I made these slightly bigger to give more room at the firewall
Next cut out some ribs these were cut from second-hand ply from a old chest of drawers added one more bay to the wing
They were well lighten needed them strong but not to heavy I used spruce spars don't want them clapping hands out of a dive LOL
The tail plane needed a bit of though as I have seen a few fold up, so I cut into the balsa sheet into strips and added spruce strips and glued this up as one, the extra glue joints would add strength, and the weight at the back of the model would help compensate for the over size engine
I decided to fit two servos in the tail ,with the big engine the extra weight would be needed and more reliable than the single one, I fitted Futaba metal geared S9402 all round might be over the top, but with this amount of power can't be to carful could get blowback with this amount of power
And the tail
Coming together nicely
Starting to look like a model now
Servos up the back hope this helps with the C o G
Fitted Peter Tindal rods and hi power servos all round no clevises all bolted
Anyway here is the finished model all ready for its maiden flight
I will see how it flies then make a plug and add a engine cowl later, after the engine as been run in
Hope this as given you some inspiration to get building and post .
