lol, it'll fly great!! But I do understand a private maiden helps take the pressure off, I still remember how much pressure I felt when I went dogging for the 1st time!!

Mr Hobbins popped round yesterday to help me check the c of g. Thankfully it was spot on without any ballast or the need to stick the batteries in an awkward place....well chuffed.
The two Zenoah's were started by hand, both using the "finger in the air intake, full throttle, then ten flicks with ignition off. Ignition then on, throttle open about 1/8 and flick". They sounded awesome together and like an old 2 cylinder 2 stroke motorcycle at idle.
All I need now is some good weather.

Superb job Ian and as we all know you would've checked everything 3 times over for that maiden flight.
I bet she'll motor on at a fair old lick.
Great job and good luck  Bravo  Bravo  Bravo

With the afternoon forecast showing sunny with an 18mph SW'ly breeze, I couldn't think of any other reason than to take the afternoon off......

After assembling the Cat, I checked the gear held air pressure, fully filled the tanks to check plumbing and gave the engines another run up (cutting my finger on the razor like APC props in the process!). So with the tanks refilled, air tank topped up, range check completed and finger in a plaster, I taxied out onto the strip. The front wheel was very light on the ground, but ground handling was ok. The engines pulled well and sounded superb. Into wind, one last check of control throws and away she went.
As the nose was light, down elevator was fed into to prevent early rotation. As I relaxed the elevator to neutral, the nose started to hop, then a gentle pull back saw her airbourne. Motors were brought back to 3/4 throttle then about 5 beeps of down and 8 beeps of aileron were added to get her straight and level. Next circuit, gear was raised and speed picked up. At this point, some of the down trim was removed, obviously the gear caused the initial nose down atitude. I then relaxed a little and enjoyed gentle circuits with the odd loop and roll thrown in. The Cat looked and sounded superb! I even managed to get a photo of her with my phone!!
After 8 minutes, I tried the slow speed and flaps. Half flap was manageable but full flap gave a huge nose up reaction. So, with gear down, I selected half flap to land. She came in beautifully on approach and touched down gently. At this point, I should have remembered the light front end and added a little down. Instead, I was still pulling back on the stick slightly which resulted in a number of unplanned "touch and goes". I thought the u/c was going to be ripped out (the YT/ESM gear and mounts get a lot of criticism) but all was well. Taxied her back, turned into wind and after spending a minute listening to the "ring ding ding" of the engines, I shut her down and did post flight checks.
All in all, I was a happy man. I thought that the 3 year build time was gonna be wasted, but all went as good as it could have been.
